I use the Kindle app on my tablet and it calculates the amount of time it would take me to finish the chapter. I like this feature a lot – when it works. But when it doesn’t my engineering mind kicks in and I try to figure out the algorithm that calculates this number. It must know based on table of contents where it chapter begins and ends. This is critical. And after you read a few “pages” it must use some sort of learning algorithm and maybe take an average over time. But I’ve seen this minutes left in chapter feature show the wrong value more than once. Maybe because sometimes I flip through the pages too fast just to peek at the next few pages. Sometimes I go back a few pages to re-read something. I wonder how these would affect time left in chapter. Not sure. But too get a better understanding – or just to have Amazon Kindle learn your reading speed again you might want to reset it.
The only information I found on the internet was this:
Type ;ReadingTimeReset in the search box and hit enter.
Did this work for me? Nope. Maybe because I use the Kindle App and not the actual Kindle hardware. If you find any useful information on how “mins left chapter” is calculated or how you reset it on the app please let me know.
